Saipol, a subsidiary of the Avril group, announces the launch of OleoZE, a new service for purchasing sustainable French oilseeds from farmers and collecting organisations. For the first time, the purchase price of seeds will enhance, via a "Carbon credit", the efforts undertaken by rapeseed and sunflower producers to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and develop carbon storage on their farms. The development of Saipol's renewable energy sales is the lever that allows it to better promote soil conservation farming practices.
OleoZE, the new Saipol service for sourcing seeds from soil conservation farming
This new service is available on the digital marketplace oleomarket.fr. Now, collecting organisations and farmers can market their rapeseed and sunflower seeds there. By getting information on the farm’s crop management techniques, they can then estimate the price credit for which they are eligible, based on the real impact of the farm on carbon storage and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The carbon credit is around € 20/tonne of seeds and decreases/increases depending on farming practices and the valuation of reductions in GHG emissions on the biofuels market.
By tracking these actual agronomic practices on farms, and by certifying these data via a dedicated tool, Saipol can develop its offer of renewable energies from rapeseed and sunflower crops, such as Oleo100 and biodiesels guaranteeing high reductions in GHGs.
Pay for sustainable agricultural practices to accelerate their development
The development of OleoZE has been the subject of almost two years of work, largely involving collecting organisations during the last six months.
For Christophe Beaunoir, Managing Director of Saipol, "With OleoZE, we are providing a concrete solution to collectors and farmers to recognise their role in the fight against global warming and support the agricultural transition. "
We create a 3rd oilseed earnings pillar. Up until now, farmers produced rapeseed or sunflowers and were paid for the oil and protein in the seeds. From now on, sustainability and earth friendly crop management on farms will also be paid for downstream through our sales of renewable energy, of which Oleo100 is an example.
This OleoZE solution is perfectly in line with the social commitments of the Avril group by meeting the expectations of our customers and all our agricultural principals".
